Cultural Competency and Safeguarding in Diverse Communities

In an increasingly diverse society, safeguarding must be sensitive to cultural differences while maintaining clear protection standards.

Cultural competency involves understanding and respecting diverse values, beliefs, and practices without compromising the safety and rights of vulnerable individuals.

At Petros, we support organisations to develop cultural awareness and responsiveness in their safeguarding approaches. This includes training on recognising cultural influences on communication, family dynamics, and perceptions of abuse or neglect. It also involves addressing potential challenges such as language barriers, mistrust of authorities, or different child-rearing practices.
